First appearance: Uncanny X-Men #169
Feared and hunted due to their mutant powers and inhuman appearances, many mutants sought refuge in the underground of New York City. Despising the humans for their beauty, the Morlocks preferred ugliness; they wore rags and were proud to have their faces changed into ugly ones by Masque in defiance of the human society that had rejected them. Mutants with tracking powers enabled them to invite more frightened mutants into their ranks.
The Morlocks described here are not the only tunnel-dwelling mutants in the world today. A small group of mutants living in the subway tunnels of Chicago were dubbed "The Morlocks" by the local media who used the name after hearing about New York's Morlock community. London also had its own community of tunnel dwellers.
Recently, a new group who call themselves "Those Who Live in Darkness" have been inhabiting the sewer tunnels just below the surface of Mutant Town/District X in that particular burrough of New York. However, District X writer David Hine never intended for this group to have any ties to the original Morlocks.

Mikhail Rasputin and Dark Beast are not really Morlocks, but they are listed here too, as they are very important influences on the history of this underground society. Retcon
The Dark Beast of the Age of Apocalypse crossed over to the main reality (616) twenty years in the past. In X-Men: Prime, he encounters Marrow and recognizes her as his work one or two generations removed. He mentions to have had a part in the Morlocks’ creation but was rather disappointed with them, except for Callisto. Since in AOA Dark Beast learned genetics from AOA-Sinister, his work on the Morlocks was recognized by 616 Sinister as being based on his own studies. To prevent further unauthorized use of his theories, Sinister had the Marauders kill the Morlocks during the Mutant Massacre. (revealed in Cable (1st series) #28)
Chronology
| Uncanny X-Men #169-171: | Callisto, leader of the Morlocks, kidnaps the Angel and brings him to abandoned subway tunnels and underground bomb shelters that the Morlocks call home. “The Alley," as the Morlocks call it, is the Morlocks’ domain. Callisto plans to marry the Angel, whom she believes to be the most beautiful man alive and the perfect mate. The X-Men follow, but Kitty is infected by Plague and the rest of the team is overwhelmed by dozens of (unnamed) Morlocks. Caliban, a loner among this society, finds the unconscious Kitty and takes her to his quarters. She promises to stay with Caliban if he takes her to the X-Men, which he does. Hopelessly outnumbered and weakened by the effects of Plague’s powers, the only way for the X-Men to get out of this situation alive is a leadership duel to the death. Storm (shaken by Plague's fever) challenges Callisto. In a “no powers” duel with knives, Storm surprises everyone present when she wins by stabbing Callisto right in the heart. Due to the efforts of the Morlock Healer, Callisto does not die. Storm, now in charge of the Morlocks, orders them to cease all attacks on the surface world. She offers them a safe haven at Xavier’s school, but they refuse, preferring the obscurity and safety of the tunnels. |

| Uncanny X-Men #178-179: | The Morlocks kidnap Kitty in the middle of a crisis, namely while she is trying to steal a special device from the Fantastic Four’s Baxter Building. To cover their tracks, they leave behind the body of a girl that was given Kitty’s face by Masque, making it look like as if Kitty had fallen off the building and died. When the X-Men identify the body; Logan discovers that she has the wrong scent. They trace Kitty to the Morlock tunnels and want to rescue their teammate, though a Morlock kid by the name of Leech negates their powers. Kitty demands that the X-Men cease their attack, as she wants to keep her word. Seeing how much agony it causes her, Caliban releases Kitty from her vow. |
| New Mutants (1st series) #20: | After Danielle Moonstar receives life-threatening injuries in a fight with the Demon Bear, Storm calls upon the Morlock Healer to save the New Mutant’s life. |
| Uncanny X-Men #190-191: | When Kulan Garth transforms Manhattan to a medieval state, the Morlocks are affected too. Storm, Callisto and Selene are responsible for a revolution, leading to the ancient sorcerer’s defeat. |
| Uncanny X-Men #192-193: | After Professor Xavier is almost beaten to death by some drunken mutant haters, a Morlock finds him and takes him to Callisto. He awakens the next morning and Callisto tells him that the Healer completely drained himself to bring him back to life. Just before Xavier leaves the Alley, Sunder brings bad news: Annalee's four kids were shot while they spent some time on the surface. (In Uncanny X-Men #211, it is revealed that the Marauder Scalphunter was the one responsible for the kids’ murder.) |
| Power Pack #11-12: | During an earlier adventure, the Power kids had to leave their schoolbooks in the sewers. Piper observed the kids and learned their names from the books. When they return for the books, a band of Morlocks (Piper, Erg, Tarbaby and Ape) kidnaps them. The kids are given to Annalee to replace the children she lost. She is a projecting empath and, since her children died, she was broadcasting misery and grief full force; that's why the power-dampening Leech had to stay with her the whole time. Otherwise, the other Morlocks would have gone insane. The Morlocks hope that, with a new set of kids, she will think of something else. Masque is there to replace their faces; Beautiful Dreamer shall do the same with their memories. Fortunately, Kitty and Kurt of the X-Men pay Callisto and Caliban a visit and discover the kids. They free them and Callisto promises no more attacks on the surface dwellers. Power Pack suggests that Annalee could adopt Leech, but she doesn't accept the ugly kid. |
| Uncanny X-Men #195: | Only a few nights later, Annalee and some friends again capture Power Pack. Katie Power is able to run away and alerts the X-Men. In a big fight, they not only face the Morlocks but the other three Power children who have already been mind-wiped by the Morlocks. Kitty Pryde finally gets through to Annalee, explaining that what she is doing to these kids is no better than killing them, like her real children were. Callisto returns from a short leave and gives the involved Morlocks a final warning. She sees to it that all changes made to the Power kids are undone. |
| Power Pack #19: | Katie Power decides to invite all the lonely people the team has met in its short career for a Thanksgiving dinner. Erg accepts her offer in the name of Annalee and Leech; but Annalee wants to spend the day with them alone. So, she locks Leech in a closet but Ape frees him. Leech still wants Annalee to be his mother. During the dinner with the Power kids, Annalee finally realizes her mistake and accepts Leech as her child. |
| Thor (1st series) #364-365: | Thor has been turned into a frog by Loki. Entering the Morlock tunnels he meets Piper. |
| Uncanny X-Men #207-209: | The X-Men use the Morlocks tunnels for a hiding place. Caliban helps them to locate Rachel, who after a deadly confrontation with Wolverine went into hiding. When they suddenly encounter Nimrod and the Hellfire Club, Storm orders Callisto and Caliban to leave, since this isn't their fight. |
| X-Factor (1st series) #7: | Bulk and Glow Worm are two mutants that are even rejected by the Morlocks. They are both contaminated with radioactive waste and not allowed to come near the Morlock tunnels. When they try to pass through the Alley, they meet a Morlock girl named Skids. Her power is a force field that protects her from harm. Neither the pair's radioactivity nor Masque's facial manipulations can harm her (so actually she is the prettiest Morlock). |

 [Uncanny X-Men #210-212, X-Factor (1st series) #9-11, New Mutants (1st series) #46, Thor (1st series) #373-374, Power Pack #27, Uncanny X-Men #350 (flashback)] - The Marauders follow Tommy, a Morlock girl, into the tunnels. As soon as they know the Alley's location, they kill her. Entering the Alley, the Marauders start to kill everyone in sight. - (Uncanny X-Men #350 flashback: The trial of Gambit reveals that he worked for Sinister and gathered the Marauders. It is clear that, when he led them into the Morlock tunnels, Gambit did not know about their true intentions. Once he realized that they were going to kill the Morlocks, he parted with them. At least, he was able to rescue the Morlock child Sarah, Marrow, from being killed by Sabretooth.) - Meanwhile, Skids hides Rusty in the Morlock tunnels, but Freedom Force follows. Artie Maddicks mentally probes the tunnels and learns about the danger of the Marauders. He leaves X-Factor a note and enters the tunnels as well, where he meets Leech and Caliban. - A dying Morlock is able to contact the X-Men for help. In The Alley, they find many hurt or already dead Morlocks. Callisto, though hurt, is still able to fight. Besides many unnamed people, Annalee and Piper die. The X-Men fight some of the Marauders, and there are casualties on both sides. - X-Factor finds Artie's note and follow him into the tunnels. Of course, they join the fight and are able to drive the Marauders off, though not before they manage to kill Zeek. - Caliban gets hurt by Sabretooth, but Leech and Artie pull him into a pipe too narrow for Sabretooth to enter. - Amidst all the chaos and carnage, Plague receives an offer from Apocalypse to join his Horsemen; she accepts and is teleported away. - Cyclops' team rescues two more Morlocks: Ape and Tarbaby. However, they still haven’t found Artie. - The X-Men and the New Mutants turn their hangar into a field hospital. Callisto isn't hurt badly, but Sunder's leg has to be amputated. Even with the medical treatment, more and more of the Morlocks are dying. - Artie fears that Caliban might bleed to death. He leaves the secure place they have found to hide and ventures into the tunnels alone, to search for X-Factor. - Angel and Jean reunite with their teammates, just in time to help them fend off another Marauder attack. During their previous battles, Cyclops, Beast and Iceman received some minor injuries. Angel tells Jean to take all three of them and the rescued Morlocks to their infirmary, while he continues to search for Artie. - Power Pack learns through Franklin's dreams about Leech being in danger. Even though they must face Sabretooth and a few more Marauders along the way, they are able to rescue Leech and Caliban from the pipe. - Angel finds Artie but is ambushed by the Marauders. Before Thor is able to help him, they badly damage his wings. - After the X-Factor members treat their injuries and leave the Morlock quartet with Skids; Cyclops, Jean, Beast and Iceman re-enter the tunnels in search of more survivors. They meet Power Pack and take Caliban and Leech with them, ordering Power Pack to return home to their parents. - Wolverine once more enters the tunnels and rescues the Healer from the clutches of Sabretooth. - On the way back to their complex, X-Factor encounter a group of four more Morlocks, calling themselves the "Tunnelers," who were able to stay alive: Masque, Scaleface, Berzerker and Blow-Hard. X-Factor invites them to join, which they reluctantly do. - After rescuing the Angel from certain death, Thor creates a firestorm through the Morlock tunnels that burns away all blood and dead bodies. - The Tunnelers are not sure about X-Factor's intentions. Secretly, they sneak out of the complex and are caught in a local gang war. The resulting fight with the police and X-Factor leads to the deaths of Scaleface, Berzerker and Blow-Hard. - During the whole slaughtering of the Morlocks, X-Men and X-Factor never meet and have no knowledge of the other team having rescued some survivors, too. |
| Uncanny X-Men #213-217: | To prevent another massacre, the X-Men and Callisto decide to transfer all the wounded to Moira MacTaggert's Muir Island complex. Before they leave, Callisto and Wolverine train together in the Danger Room. Callisto explains that she feels responsible for her people and will stay with them on Muir. After arriving on Muir, Callisto and Moira talk about the few survivors’ conditions and the future for the X-Men. |
| X-Factor (1st series) #12-15: | X-Factor's headquarters are kind of overcrowded. The Beast and Iceman prepare breakfast for their Morlock guests (Beautiful Dreamer, Tarbaby, Ape, Masque, Caliban, Skids, Leech and Erg), who believe themselves to be the last Morlocks alive. Caliban, Leech, Skids and Ape integrate very well, but Masque causes major trouble in the X-Factor complex. Caliban and Erg travel to the Morlock tunnels and meet other Morlocks that survived the massacre as well. They had been hiding in the far recesses of the Alley's sideways. Even though X-Factor invites them to stay, all Morlocks but Skids resettle in the Morlock tunnels. |

Emma, who found God after Rusty burned her, enters the Morlock tunnels to bring them the word of God. |
| X-Factor (1st series) #17: | Caliban and Leech attend the funeral of Warren Worthington. Leech’s presence was fortuitous since Iceman was about to lose control of his ice powers. Leech cancels them out. After the funeral, Caliban helps X-Factor in an emergency. |
| Marvel Comics Present #15: | Among the many Morlocks killed in the Mutant Massacre was a child named Lightning Bug. However, her astral form survived and needs a new body. Therefore, she mimics the Phoenix Force and lures Marvel Girl into the tunnels to take her over. Jean fights the outside influence and wins. Lighting Bug finally dies. |

| Excalibur (1st series) #4, 6, 9-11: | A train in which Moira and Callisto are traveling is transported to another dimension. In its place, a similar train with that dimension's versions of Callisto and Moira appears. They are from a reality ruled by Nazis; Hitler had won WW II there. After facing the Lightning Brigade (that world's version of Excalibur), Excalibur arranges an exchange of the doppelgangers. |
| Marvel Comics Presents #20-24: | Master Mold has taken mental control over Moira to create a virus called "retribution" that kills mutants. Banshee was able to contact Cyclops just before he himself was infected and kidnapped. Cyclops along with Callisto and Moira are the last line of defense. Even though both Callisto and Cyclops are infected too, they beat Master Mold. Moira finds a cure for the virus; after all it was of her own design. |
| Uncanny X-Men #253: | Magneto steps down as headmaster for Xavier's school. Actually, it's not much of a school anymore. The X-Men are believed dead, the New Mutants are missing and X-Factor is in outer space. Moira sends Callisto to seal Xavier's underground complex to make sure that the technology doesn't fall into the wrong hands. |
| Uncanny X-Men #254: | Callisto performs her task but, afterwards, she is captured by the Morlocks who resettled in the Alley. They are now led by Masque. He wants her to give him the access codes to the mansion, but she refuses. Masque tortures her and promises to create a masterpiece out of her. Meanwhile, the Reavers storm Muir Island and try to kill anyone on it. Sunder is able to rescue some of the Morlock children before Pretty Boy shoots him in the back. |
| Uncanny X-Men #259-260: | Masque turns Callisto into a weak but stunning beauty. He forces her to become a photo model. Following a trip through the Siege Perilous, Colossus arrives in New York with no memories of his past. He starts to build a life for himself as an artist. The picture of a beautiful woman in an advertisement fascinates him. He later meets her in person, and rescues her from a street gang. Naturally, the mystery woman is the transformed Callisto. |
| X-Factor (1st series) #51-53: | Sabretooth wants to hunt down the surviving Morlocks to finish the job he started with the Marauders. He tracks Chicken Wings and Mole, two Morlocks keeping a low profile in the back streets of New York. Chicken Wings, upon dying, tells Mole to warn the other Morlocks, but first he has to get away. He hides in the basement of a store and befriends Opal Tanaka (Iceman's girlfriend), who is working there. He falls in love with her and, after he secretly follows her, learns about her relationship with Bobby Drake. Disappointed, Mole decides to return to the Morlock tunnels and runs right into Sabretooth's waiting arms. At the same time, the now extremely powerful Caliban (has been upgraded by Apocalypse) finds a new purpose; he starts to hunt down Sabretooth and wants to test his new abilities against him. |
| Uncanny X-Men #261-264: | Searching through the ruins of Xavier's mansion, Jean Grey is attacked by a few unnamed Morlocks, who, due to Masque’s face-changing abilities, resemble the X-Men. Banshee and Forge were observing the mansion and join the fight. Jean and Banshee are kidnapped and transformed by Masque as well. Banshee no longer has a mouth and Jean's arms are turned into dozens of purple tentacles. Masque also tracks down Callisto and captures her and Colossus. Adjusting to her new limbs, Jean and Forge are able to free Callisto and Colossus. Together, they force Masque to send them back to the mansion. Lucky for Sean and Jean, Forge took cell samples of them before the battle and is able to undo Masque's changes. They decide not to restore Peter's memory, as he seems too happy with his new life as an artist and his lover, Callisto. |
| New Mutants (1st series) #90-91: | In the Morlock tunnels, Sabretooth finds himself another victim - Samson. Caliban arrives too late to help him. Instead, he runs into Rictor, who after an argument with Cable fled into the tunnels. Suddenly, Sabretooth appears and starts a fight with Caliban. Rictor is caught in the middle. Searching the tunnels for Rictor, Cable and the New Mutants run into a group of four Morlocks led by Masque. The Morlocks want to help kill Sabretooth to exact revenge for the Massacre; but Caliban demands a one-against-one fight. Both groups watch as Caliban breaks Sabretooth's spine, leaving him for dead. |
| Ghost Rider (3rd series) #9: | A splinter group of Morlocks, led by a young mutant woman called Pixie, has hidden some children away in a cemetery, trying to protect them from Masque. Some of these "Morlocks" were regular humans that have been altered by Masque, who plans to do the same to the children. They "save" Ghost Rider from a group of bounty hunters and ask him to help them. X-Factor hears of the kidnappings and investigates. They hold off the bounty hunters and help most of the children escape. Blackout rips out Pixie's throat and Ghost Rider buries Blackout in the collapsing tunnel, while his motorcycle evacuates the remaining kids. Bertram and the rest of the Morlocks return the children to their parents like Pixie would have wanted and promise X-Factor they'll keep protecting them from Masque. |
| New Mutants (1st series) #99-100: | A Morlock named Feral refuses to follow Masque's orders. She is hunted by Hump, Brute and Masque. By chance, she finds an access hatch leading to Xavier's underground complex. Witnessing the deal between Cable and Warpath (“I'll help you fight your war, if you fight mine”), she asks to join the team under similar conditions. When Masque and his minions finally arrive and refuse to leave without the runaway, Cable makes a point by shooting Brute. Masque and Hump quickly change their minds and leave. |
| Web of Spiderman #77-78: | A small Morlock family that escaped the Massacre settled in an abandoned hotel. When it was turned into a homeless shelter, they hid beneath the hotel. Firebrand burns the already weak building, causing a cave in. Knowing that she is too big to move, Mother Inferior sacrifices herself for the sake of her family. Ent and Pester help rebuild the homeless shelter and are fully accepted by its other inhabitants despite their strange appearance. |
| Wolverine (2nd series) #41-43: | During a massive rainstorm, the tunnels are in danger of being flooded. Masque has some of his minions enter the pipe room. They rearrange the water-flow to the South Street Outlet. Unknown to them, Wolverine is right there and discovers that Sabretooth is not dead. Since his confrontation with Caliban, Sabretooth has been laying low in the tunnels while his spine was healing. The water from the re-routed pipes washes Wolverine and Sabretooth against an iron grate, but still the fight between them continues. Just before both of them drown, Elsie Dee and Cable blow a hole through a sidewall. Then all of them are washed against a bigger grate, but stuck again. Nearby, the readings show Masque that a grate is clogged; so he starts a mechanical device that should cut all debris to pieces. Elsie Dee sacrifices her body to cause an explosion. The group is washed out into the East River. Later Masque examines the exploded gate and finds Elsie Dee's head and an angry Albert, who wants to build a new body for her. |
| Wolverine (2nd series) #45-46, 51: | Afraid of Albert, the Morlocks help him to get more and more cables and electricity for the rebuilding. After the repairs are done, Elsie Dee and Albert leave. |
| X-Force (1st series) #6-7,9,11: | Masque discusses an Alliance with the Toad's new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants IV. Masque is not sure but, in front of his Morlocks, especially the newly introduced Thornn, he does not want to show weakness. Thornn demands that the escaped Feral has to be killed; Masque and Toad agree that taking down X-Force is their first priority. Masque and Thornn, along with the Brotherhood, attack X-Force in their headquarters, but during the fight X-Force wins the upper hand. Sauron is apparently killed, Thornn is captured and Masque ends up impaled by Shatterstar’s sword. The remaining Brotherhood members escape. X-Force brings the chained Thornn, along with the bodies of Masque and Sauron into the Alley to warn the Morlocks not to strike again. |

| Uncanny X-Men #291: | The Healer seeks out Callisto. Masque's constant manipulations of the minds and bodies of the Morlocks threaten to drive them insane. Now with Masque dead, they desperately need a leader. Callisto refuses, since she now lives a normal life among the surface people. Angered by her decision, the Morlocks beat her and the Healer half to death. She contacts Xavier for help. The X-Men put both of them in their infirmary. Burning out his last energies and dying, the Healer, uses his powers on Callisto not only to heal her but to restore her to the woman she was before undergoing Masque's changes. Mikhail Rasputin, currently at the mansion, senses a kindred spirit in Callisto; she too is a "shepherd who has lost her flock." The X-Men enter the Morlock tunnels and discover that, due to their madness, many of them are fighting and killing each other. As they become aware of Storm, they gather around their former leader. Storm, a claustrophobe, panics and creates a hurricane big enough to break a hole to New York's surface. |
| Uncanny X-Men #292: | The X-Men go after the Morlocks that are spreading throughout New York. One of them is a newly introduced Morlock called Meme. In the tunnels, Xavier encounters a Morlock child, Brain Cell, who is telepathically linked to all the other Morlocks. He is the one responsible for the other Morlocks’ madness. He hopes to stop the fight by calming the kid. Jean has to shut off Meme's mind in order to rescue the humans that he has absorbed into his body. Callisto decides to make the Morlocks pay for taking her beauty away, Mikhail joins her. |
| Uncanny X-Men #293: | Once in the tunnels, Mikhail claims leadership of the Morlocks, which they accept. Believing that the world has no place for monsters like the Morlocks, Callisto or himself, he floods the tunnels completely to take them out of their misery. |
| Cable (2nd series) #15: | Thornn tries to run from the flood wave and meets the Morlock child, Sarah, in one of the tunnels. As the flood wave arrives, she tries to grab the girl but fails. Thornn is washed through the sewers and emerges alive in a pipe leading outside. |
| Uncanny X-Men Annual #18: | Caliban again fights Sabretooth, only to be defeated this time. In shame, Caliban hides in the Morlock tunnels. |
| Cable (2nd series) #15: | For months, Thornn has been searching the tunnels for survivors. Now, she asks Cable for help, claiming that she has found the Morlock child Sarah. According to Sarah, the Morlocks did not die but, at the last instant, they were transported to another place by Mikhail. From this place, they can cross over and back to Earth. Since the Morlocks are too afraid to come, Thornn, Domino and Cable perform the "ceremony of light." This special event uses sunlight redirected through many specifically positioned mirrors to enlighten the Alley's beauty. Into the light emerges Sarah, who thanks them for performing the ceremony but the other Morlocks are still too afraid. Sarah goes back to them. Thornn decides to stay in the tunnels, waiting for her friends. |
| X-Force (1st series) #40-41: | The police hunt down Thornn in the tunnels. They found evidence that points to Thornn and Feral as being murderers. Thornn is granted the famous one phone call and alerts X-Force. Cable receives a tip from the MLF's Moonstar where to expect Feral. Together with Thornn, they capture her and sort the whole mess out. It turns out that Feral was responsible for killing the rest of their family; she is convicted and transported to prison. |
| Cable (2nd series) #17: | In the Morlock tunnels, Caliban is hunted by the Dark Riders, who have judged him unworthy. He is saved by Cable, Domino and Storm. |

| Storm #1-4: | In remembrance of the Morlocks, Storm performs the ceremony of light. Suddenly, a portal opens and she is pulled inside, only to emerge on "The Hill," Mikhail's dimension. As it turns out, the Morlocks live on The Hill and try to get up. On the way, they fight each other and, the higher one gets, the more he has to fight. Only those that make their way up to and into Mikhail's fortress are strong enough to be counted among Gene Nation. Since time moves a lot faster here, Storm encounters the children of the people she once knew. Only Callisto and Mikhail are still there, both 10 to 20 years older. At first, Callisto was Mikhail’s consort but he threw her out of the fortress when she did not agree with him about Gene Nation’s terrorist plans. Mikhail uses them to terrorize New York through his portals. In battle, Storm proves to be more capable than Mikhail and forces him to take all the Morlocks (strong or weak) back to the tunnels. With the help of Cable, she decides to resettle them near her old village in Africa. Callisto runs away and escapes into the tunnels, where she meets Marrow. She survived her encounter with Storm because she has a second heart. Mikhail also escapes and teleports back to The Hill. In his hiding spot, the Dark Beast is angry that Storm interfered in his plans for the Morlocks. |

Storm was busy with the X-Men and failed to notice. Once she learns of these attacks, the X-Men go to help, but the Morlocks are no longer happy with Storm’s leadership anymore. Havok's Brotherhood of Mutants I arrives too and invites the surviving Morlocks to join. But before they can discuss the future of the Morlocks, the Razors of Humanity’s Last Stand attack again. Only together are they are able to defend the Morlocks. In the end, the Morlock D'Gard, who had been the default leader in Storm’s absence, declares that the Morlocks do not need the X-Men or the Brotherhood. From now on, they are on their own and will stay in Africa. Tether and Boost, two other Morlocks, think that Africa is not a good place to stay; they depart. |

| Wolverine / Punisher Revelation #1-4: | Years ago, a Morlock child's ability manifested with cruel effects. Her power was a constant death energy field. It was first discovered when her parents died. As the Morlocks were unable to find a cure, the Morlock scientist, Soteira, put her into a cryogenic chamber. Now a subway construction crew has entered the abandoned tunnels and accidentally opens the chamber. Revelation, the girl with the death-inducing energy field, comes out of hibernation and her powers are even stronger now. The long isolation has taken its toll on her mind as well. She is no longer aware of her surroundings; instead she lives in her fantasy world and searches for her parents. Wolverine and the Punisher do not know how to deal with the situation, since the girl cannot be blamed for her condition. In the end, the Punisher uses his angelic powers to give her hope. Revelation then dies. |
| Wolverine (2nd series) #157: | Investigating a series of murders, Spider-Man and Logan discover a small band of five Morlocks that apparently weren't transported to the Hill (they are following old Morlock laws). he was never seen again, not even when the surviving patients were relocated to Muir Island.
Actually this Piper could be the same person as Piper I, of the Savage Land Mutates, who first appeared in X-Men (1st series) #62. The Savage Land Piper traveled with Magneto to the US in Avengers (1st series) #110-111, only to be left alone when Magneto was defeated and imprisoned by the Avengers. Already in the United States, he could have been approached by the Morlocks. They sure look similar enough, and any discrepancies in outer appearance could be explained by Masque’s face-changing. Although Thor writer Walter Simonson never intended the Morlock Piper to be the same one, the Savage Land Mutate Piper never appeared again. Maybe later writers came to the same conclusion as here and did not use the Savage Land character again, believing he died with the Morlocks.
