Big Hero Six Team Entry

Before

Sunfire was regarded as Japan’s greatest superhero until he lost control of his powers, after which he was incarcerated by the government. Rescued by Wolverine and the Silver Samurai, he traveled to Canada to receive aid from Department H and Alpha Flight. Told by Department H that he was dying of radiation poisoning, Sunfire left Canada and headed back to his homeland to die in peace. [Wolverine Annual ’96, Alpha Flight (2nd series) 1-2, 13]
The Giri, a Japanese consortium of politicians and business entities, decided that Japan needed its own sanctioned superhero team. The Giri then placed Mr. Oshima in charge as their representative and Furi Wamu as behind the scenes liaison. The former terrorist Silver Samurai was selected as field leader of the new team Japan would soon call Big Hero 6. Other recruits were Honey Lemon, the inventor of the Power Purse, and Gogo Tomago, a prisoner released on the terms that she served on the team.

Chronology

With half the team recruited, the Giri’s next potential candidates for Big Hero 6 were Hiro Takachiho, a 13-year old boy of genius-level intellect and Monster Baymax, a robotic synthformer that acted as Hiro’s butler/bodyguard and which could morph into a humanoid dragon. The Silver Samurai approached Hiro’s mother to ask her permission to allow Hiro to join the team, an offer which she outright refused. Resolute, the Silver Samurai next approached Hiro himself at Hiro’s high school and asked him to join the team. Hiro also turned down the Samurai’s proposition.

Growing up, Hiro had always idolized Japan’s hero, Sunfire. When one of his inventions notified him that Sunfire had returned to Japan, Hiro and Baymax located him in an old monastery. Hiro finally met his hero and, after learning of his condition, were met by Big Hero 6. They took Sunfire into their custody to run further tests on him. Hiro returned home to find that his mother had been kidnapped by an entity known as Everwraith. Hiro, Baymax and Sunfire joined with the others to complete the team. Big Hero 6 fought the entity together and managed to save Tokyo and Hiro’s mother. [Sunfire & Big Hero 6 #1-3]

In Between

After discovering he was lied to about his condition, Sunfire left the team to return to Canada and confront Department H and demand answers.
Big Hero 6’s headquarters, in the meanwhile, was changed from the Giri Office Building to Osaka’s Cool World Amusement Park.

Chronology continued

After settling into their new headquarters, Big Hero 6 battled a monster created from a child’s drawing known as “X the Unknowable.” In the meantime, Sunfire had confronted Department H, only to learn the scientist responsible for lying to him had fled. Although Sunfire had left the team, when Big Hero 6 sent out a distress signal, Sunfire made his way back to Japan to aid his former friends and comrades. With the help of Alpha Flight, Big Hero 6 managed to defeat X the Unknowable. [Alpha Flight (2nd series) #17]

The team continued to operate with 5 members and defended Japan to the best of their ability. They rescued civilians and tried to prevent any casualties during the Masters of Evil’s weather distortion plan, which caused a blizzard in Japan. [Thunderbolts (1st series) #25]

In Between

The team returned to their Tokyo headquarters.
The Silver Samurai left the team after Clan Yashida was challenged by the Chinese-based Clan Kaishek. [Wolverine (2nd series) #150-153] He was later presumed deceased after a battle with the assassin Elektra. [Elektra (2nd series) #3-4]
When the supervillain Deadline attacked and defeated Big Hero 6 in their own headquarters, Honey Lemon managed to take refuge in her own Power Purse. She was transported to Coronar, a planet in the Microverse. There, she aided Empress Hynodia in rescuing her daughter, Lumina, from their foes, the Scions of the Azure Flame. Honey Lemon was hailed as a goddess by the people of Coronar and Lumina felt she owed Honey Lemon a soul debt for saving her life. Lumina returned to Earth with Honey Lemon and helped defeat Deadline. When she learned of Honey Lemon’s admiration for Sunfire, Lumina donned a superhero costume and started calling herself Sunpyre, in honor of Sunfire’s deceased half-sister. [Big Hero 6 #2]
The Big Hero 6 headquarters was next attacked by a man calling himself the Ebon Samurai. Ebon Samurai, the man once known as Kioshi Keishicho was once a member of the Imperial Guard of Japan. He was slain by the Silver Samurai during an assassination attempt on the Emperor by Hydra. Filled with vengeance, he was approached in the afterlife by the god of primordial evil, Amatsu-Mikaboshi. Kioshi made a pact with Mikaboshi to return to the land of the living, not knowing the full details of his contract as he was permanently bonded to a suit of armor not unlike the Silver Samurai’s and wielded a katana possessed by a shinma demon. He attacked the Giri office after learning of the Silver Samurai’s affiliation with Big Hero 6. However, when he found out that the Silver Samurai was presumed deceased, he believed his return no longer had a purpose and decided to serve alongside Big Hero 6. [Big Hero 6 #2]

Chronology continued

With the Silver Samurai and Sunfire gone, the mantle of leadership fell upon Hiro’s shoulders. At some stage, the team was mind-controlled and attacked Alpha Flight, thanks to a device implanted within Baymax. Sasquatch of the Alpha Flight realized they were being controlled and managed to release Big Hero 6 from the device’s thrall. [Alpha Flight (3rd series) #9, 12]

When the US Superhuman Registration Act passed, Big Hero 6 publicly declared their support for the legislation. [Civil War: Battle Damage Report]

In Between

After learning that the Silver Samurai was not dead as previously believed, the Ebon Samurai left the team to pursue his mission of vengeance.
Sunpyre also soon left the team when she learned that remnants of the Scions of the Azure Flame had returned and caused havoc on Coronar. She vowed to one day return to her goddess, Honey Lemon, and her friends.
Hiro modified Baymax’s transformation to look more like a traditional mecha.
With the departure of the Ebon Samurai and Sunpyre, the Giri recruited a new member called Wasabi-no-Ginger.

Chronology continued

While attending school, Hiro and Baymax were attacked by mysterious supervillains. Big Hero 6 managed to defeat them and finally met Furi Wamu, the operational head of the Exotic Assets Division of Homeland Security and creator of Big Hero 6. Furi informed the team that the attack was just a diversion and the villains’ main goal was to steal artifacts of inestimable value. When they found out the villains would be targeting New York next, Big Hero 6 assembled and made their way to the Big Apple.

The mission took the team to Southport, where the team had to remain undercover as students at Southport High School and ensure the safety of a Dr. Iosama, his daughter and the priceless artifact. They also were joined by Fred, who the Giri had picked out as their new team member. The team received a distress call from the research facility on Plum Island, where Dr. Iosama worked and the artifact was said to be. When they arrived, they came face to face with the culprit, BadGal, who had the power to possess others and used her powers to mind-control the team into battling each other. With the help of Furi Wamu, BadGal was defeated and the alien artifact was returned to the enslaved aliens who owned them. Unfortunately, the battle did not go unnoticed by New York authorities, who took Baymax and Furi into custody. Things continued to deteriorate when BadGal escaped, though Big Hero 6 managed to defeat her again and release Baymax and Furi. The team decided to remain in the States for a while but eventually made their way back to their homeland.

While the team was away, the Ebon Samurai had returned to the Giri office building to rejoin their teammates and found Sunpyre, who had returned only a short while before him. They were both unaware that their spots on the team had been filled. Sunpyre informed the Ebon Samurai that her mother had been deposed and living in exile on Ravellon, another planet in the Microverse. Sunpyre left because she was to marry the Prince of Ravellon, Arion. Feeling as though she had not repaid her soul debt to Honey Lemon, she could not go through with the marriage. In the midst of their conversation, the building was intruded by their former foe, Deadline. Together, Sunpyre and Ebon Samurai managed to defeat him. Having saved her life twice during the fight, Ebon Samurai informed Sunpyre that she now owed him a soul debt and that he was going to Coronar to save her people. Sunpyre willingly joined him and left Earth to save her own world. [Big Hero 6 #1-5]

Back in Japan, when Big Hero 6 responded to Spider-Man's call-to-arms to stop Doctor Octopus from building satellites to raze the world, the team discovered a factory complex owned by Octavius that had been shielded. Upon coming contact with the forcefield, Big Hero 6’s first supervillain, Everwraith returned with a vengeance. The team managed to once again defeat Everwraith and stop Doctor Octopus’ satellite from rocketing into space. [Amazing Spider-Man (1st series) #685, Amazing Spider-Man – Ends of the Earth] The team’s adventures recently took them to the dark side of the moon, where they fought the Jade-Gang-Stars. [All-New Invaders #7] While other heroes such as Radiance have gained fame in Japan, Big Hero still remains their premier superhero team.
