In their twin identities as the mutant hunting X-Factor and the mutant freedom fighters the X-Terminators, the original X-Men rescued a number of young mutants to train them in their powers. When X-Factor retired the X-Terminators name, their wards adopted it for themselves to become the new X-Terminators.
