In the wake of Onslaught and the loss of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Graydon Creed abandoned his grassroots anti-mutant activities in order to launch a successful third party campaign for Presidency of the United States. He had the private backing of Bastion and the newly-formed Operation: Zero Tolerance. Creed's antics naturally stirred up extremists on both sides, and the X-Men Iceman and Cannonball went undercover with the campaign to prevent Creed from being assassinated and turned into a martyr for his cause. Ultimately, Mystique succeeded in executing her son despite his protection.
