When Operation: Zero Tolerance ransacked the Xavier Institute, they accidentally caused Cerebro to come alive and become a mobile entity. Cerebro created it's own team of X-Men out of nanotech construction, based on various traits and concepts in its databases extrapolated into new derivations.
