1) Shard’s costume was a variation of the traditional X.S.E. uniform. Whether this signified her rank as lieutenant or was merely personal flair is unknown. The blue uniform had a golden stripe down the left of her chest, reaching her belt. She wore the traditional red and black ‘X’ as a buckle and had other elements like golden wrist bands and buckles on her boots. Shard often wore her hair with a comically long and unrealistic braid. [Uncanny X-Men Annual #17]
2) Upon her death, Shard’s mnemonic imprint was preserved in a holomatrix. Essentially, a full recording of her memories and personality was encoded onto a holographic projection of her body. Her hologram was tied to a wrist band projector but could be wired through other holo-emitters like those in the Danger Room or the Fall’s Edge compound. She could “teleport” by materializing anywhere within the projection radius of the device emitting her holomatrix at the time. Although tangible and interactive when fully operational, there was still a slight image distortion which marked her appearance as a hologram. [Bishop #2]
-) After being severed from the wrist projector, Shard continued to exist as an independent photonic lifeform unconnected to any emitter device (and thus no longer able to teleport). As a “living hologram,” Shard appeared more “real” than before, notable only for her glowing eyes. [Uncanny X-Men Annual ‘96]
