When Earth's planetary shield was disrupted, the AFSS became the last line of defense between threats from space and Earth. The personnel of the space station was bolstered when the Ultimates and the Guardians of the Galaxy began operating from the AFSS, and three brilliant young cadets were added to the space program. However, when the planetary shield was re-activated, the heroes aboard the AFSS soon found themselves cut off from Earth, much of which fell under the control of Hydra. Sasquatch worked with Captain Marvel and the others to try to find a way to break the shield, to no avail. With the alien Chitauri incoming, the heroes contemplated abandoning the AFSS and escaping to another world. However, knowing what was happening on Earth, that was not an option, so Sasquatch assisted with the order to abandon ship. The AFSS was dropped onto the planetary field, shattering it and enabling those heroes trapped in space to return to Earth and battle Hydra. [Mighty Captain Marvel #5-8]

With the AFSS destroyed, Sasquatch and other senior crew began operating out of the Institute for Space Studies at Columbia University. Sasquatch and the others were soon formally advised that the AFSS had been grounded. However, while Captain Marvel was away on an inter-dimensional adventure, the AFSS was rebuilt and Sasquatch and Puck returned to active duty aboard the station. [Mighty Captain Marvel #9, Captain Marvel (10th series) #125, 129]

When the Master of the World was discovered using his alien technology to repair the melting glaciers in the Arctic Circle, Sasquatch accompanied Puck and Captain Marvel to investigate. They were joined by Snowbird and Talisman, who were still active as a Canada-based team of Alpha Flight. Their investigation put them at odds with the teenage heroes known as the Champions, who wanted to hear the Master out, especially if he was indeed repairing the glaciers. Alpha Flight and the Champions battled, during which Sasquatch fought another gamma-irradiated hero, Amadeus Cho, until it was discovered that the Master was in fact attempting to steal the literal soul of the north. Sasquatch and the rest of Alpha Flight teamed up with the Champions to defeat the Master, who escaped during the chaos. [Champions (2nd series) #20-21]

Sasquatch found himself at odds with Amadeus Cho again when Amadeus returned from the planet Sakaar, where he had let the Hulk completely take over control and brutally overthrew the planet's warlord. On Earth, Cho took down an alien war criminal called Phalkan, which the Alpha Flight Space Station noticed, and Sasquatch was sent to intervene so that Phalkan could be handed over to the appropriate interstellar authorities. Amadeus Cho was not prepared to cooperate and battled Sasquatch and others, including his own allies, until eventually Cho's own self was able to bring down the out-of-control Hulk causing his rampage. [Incredible Hulk (2nd series) #715-717]

When Puck and Captain Marvel confronted Sasquatch about how he never appeared in his human form, Sasquatch eventually reverted to Walter, although it was quite the struggle for him to do so.

He was given a forced leave of absence from the Alpha Flight Space Station and returned to Vancouver. After accepting that he was starting to have trouble controlling himself when he appeared in his Sasquatch form, Walter began to look for the Hulk, who was missing, thinking the Hulk might be able to assist him. His search led him to a reporter, Jackie McGee, who was also looking for the Hulk. They ventured to a diner where Bruce Banner was reportedly seen and, after intervening in an argument between two patrons, Walter's good deed resulted in him getting stabbed.

Walt was rushed to hospital by Jackie and later died on the operating table. This gave the cause of Walter's recent uncontrollable rages, the father of Bruce Banner (known as The One Below All) to use the mysterious gamma door which linked all gamma-irradiated beings, and take possession of Walter's lifeless body, turning into Sasquatch in the process. A battle between Bruce Banner's Hulk and the possessed Sasquatch eventually resulted with the Hulk “eating” the gamma out of Sasquatch. The One Below All was expelled from Sasquatch's body, which reverted to Walter, who had survived the ordeal. However, Walter found that he could no longer feel Sasquatch within himself. He was now powerless. [Immortal Hulk #3-5]

Walter was examined by Shaman who confirmed that there was no trace of Sasquatch within him. As if that wasn't bad enough, Walter was confronted by his commanding officer, Carol Danvers, who reported that General Fortean, currently in charge of U.S. Hulk Operations, had threatened Walter with lethal injection following extradition and trial. However, should Carol's team secure Banner, then Walter would be exonerated. [Immortal Hulk #6] It was Carol Danvers' other team, the Avengers, who captured the Hulk but, when the Hulk subsequently went missing, Carol established a Gamma Flight division of the Alpha Flight Space Station, and Walter became the team leader. Despite being powerless, Walter possessed a brilliant mind and was an expert on gamma mutation. [Immortal Hulk #8]

Gamma Flight, whose number also included Puck, located the Hulk in New Mexico where they found him battling the Absorbing Man, who had become possessed in a similar manner to the way Walter had, by Brian Banner. The Absorbing Man was forced to absorb all of the gamma radiation in the area and Brian used it to open a door to the Below-Place, where the One Below All resided, and as such almost everyone in the area was transported to Hell. Walter was not transported to Hell, however, and found himself wandering the desert. When the others returned, Puck invited the Absorbing Man to join the team. Despite being in charge of Gamma Flight, Walter was not consulted on this decision. [Immortal Hulk #10, 13]

Soon after, Walter and Gamma Flight began working with Doc Samson, who after an encounter with the Hulk had learnt that the Hulk was planning to destroy humanity. When examining gamma-activated tissue that the team located and took back to the Alpha Flight Space Station, the team found themselves under attack by General Fortean, who wore a large armor. Fortean still blamed Walter for the deaths back in the diner and hospital and, after taking down the rest of Gamma Flight, Fortean wasted no time in shooting Walter at close-range through the chest, killing him. [Immortal Hulk #18, 20-21]

When Doc Samson was killed and prevented from returning to life through the Green Door, he managed to resurrect himself into Walter's body, which was stored in suspended animation aboard the Alpha Flight Space Station, and he began calling himself Doc Sasquatch. [Immortal Hulk #40] When Doc Sasquatch searched Shadow Base for his body so that he could have his psyche transported back into his own form, only his body was missing. Somehow, Walter's psyche was able to take over Doc Samson's body and he left Shadow Base, now calling himself “Walter Samson.” [Immortal Hulk #45] Walter Samson journeyed to the Baxter Building, where he assisted in helping the Fantastic Four to rescue Bruce Banner and Jackie McGee from the Below Place. There, Reed Richards noted that Walter's gamma signature matched Bruce Banner's exactly, even in Doc Samson's body. [Immortal Hulk #50]

At some point, Walter made his way back to the Alpha Flight Space Station. By now, the Canadian authorities and Department H had returned to focusing their resources on the ground-based Alpha Flight. This saw several of Walter's longtime teammates forced to hunt down mutants after Canada outlawed mutants in Canada following the rising anti-mutant sentiment that transpired when the mutant nation of Krakoa was formed. Walter remained on the Alpha Flight Space Station with Marrina, who was caring for Mac and Heather Hudson's daughter. When a group of renegade Alpha Flight members were able to escape to the Space Station, Walter assisted in transporting rescued mutants to Chandilar. [Alpha Flight (5th series) #5]

What's next for Walter in his current form (and for Alpha Flight in general) remains to be seen.
