In time, Meggan became pregnant with her and Brian’s first child. The Braddocks chose to retire from their active commitments and moved back into the Braddock Lighthouse for the necessary privacy to raise their daughter. As her daughter was born, Meggan wrote to their old teammates Rachel, Kurt and Kitty, inviting them out to England to become Margaret’s godparents. Meggan was surprised and a little taken aback by how quickly Maggie developed, however. Her infant child developed a full and articulate grasp of the English language in a matter of months. Meggan confessed to her friends she felt she was missing out on guiding Maggie’s development herself. Meggan was also still sensitive about her own limited grasp of reading and writing, and was worried her daughter would soon surpass her. Meggan’s friends helped her to accept her daughter’s differences, though, and Meggan realized her daughter loved her and was able to express that far sooner than a “normal” baby would. Meggan and Captain Britain fought alongside their friends the X-Men when the dark god Scythian from the Negative Zone dropped on Paris, France. [X-Men: Gold #25] Meggan and her old teammate Kylun also responded to an all-points alert for X-Men and mutant allies to join the team fighting X-Man and his Horsemen of Salvation on Quadra Island. Nate Grey ended up creating a “reality singularity,” sucking up all those present into a new pocket reality birthed from his Lifeseed-enhanced powers. [Uncanny X-Men (5th series) #9-10]
In this new reality, romantic and family relationships were outlawed, removing what X-Man saw as the impetus of so much conflict in life. In exchange, a virtual utopia existed where everyone in the world was a mutant and lived at peace with one another. Meggan and Nightcrawler were the top actors at Studio X, producing fantasy movies to distract and entertain the masses. Kurt and Meggan fell in love in this new reality, their chemistry on the big screen translating into intimacy behind the scenes. In fact, they apparently fell in love multiple times and were repeatedly mindwiped by the Stepford Cuckoos on their staff. Intimacy violations would normally lead to visits by the secret thought police, Department X, but the Cuckoos caught their relationships early and modified their memories themselves, to prevent Kurt and Meggan from having official strikes against them in the system.
The Cuckoos were not always successful in stopping these intimacy violations before they went too far, however, for Nightcrawler eventually discovered he had a four-year old daughter named Tenia Jean. It was heavily implied that Tenia was Meggan’s daughter as well, although how the actress managed to hide the only pregnancy in the world for months and then smuggle her infant daughter into the highly-regulated artificial birthing system is unknown, even with the Cuckoos telepathically pulling strings. Meggan started to crack during their latest relationship, her empathic metamorphing changing her into a version of Mystique as she inadvertently accessed Nightcrawler’s repressed memories from their original reality. Nightcrawler agreed to have his own memories suppressed by the Cuckoos this time, if they would allow Meggan and Tenia to go free. [Age of X-Man: Amazing Nightcrawler #1-5] Meggan was eventually recalled from this reality along with the other pre-existing X-Men and mutants. It was never discussed how she could leave her daughter Tenia behind in this pocket reality, or how the memories of her affair with Kurt might have affected her marriage to Brian back home. The X-Men forged a new mutant homeland on the living island of Krakoa, opening its borders to all mutants of the world for citizenship. Easy access to Krakoa was made with Krakoan teleport gates scattered around the world, operational only to mutants. One such gate was established at Braddock Manor, an open invitation to the mutants of Great Britain and particularly Meggan and Elizabeth Braddock. Betsy went through to join the X-Men, but the Braddocks chose to remain at home for the time being, even though Brian was a valued human ally for the mutant community. [Excalibur (4th series) #1]
Things changed for Meggan when Brian was called to Otherworld and enchanted by Morgan le Fay to serve as her knight. Morgan sought a defender against the White Witch Saturnyne and incursions from Krakoa and the “Witchbreeds” she detested. Meggan relocated to Krakoa for safety and companionship as Elizabeth took up the mantle of Captain Britain to reform Excalibur and rescue Brian. Meggan and Maggie became acquainted with Jubilee of Excalibur and her infant son Shogo, with the young mothers often watching each other’s children together. Betsy eventually saved Brian from Morgan, but his confidence was shaken by his experiences and he would not reclaim the role of Captain Britain. Meggan looked after her brooding husband while helping Pete Wisdom and MI-13 investigate the Coven Akkaba’s intrusion on British policies. [Excalibur (4th series) #4-9]
In time, the Braddocks found their place in the new hierarchy. Brian’s resurrected brother Jamie had been declared Monarch and ruler of Avalon once Excalibur claimed it from Morgan. With the Sword of Might, Brian arose to become Captain Avalon, defender of that realm and his royal brother. In service to their new kingdom, Meggan took the title of Court Sorceress Gloriana and was established with the Royal Family of Avalon. The lands of Avalon agreed with Meggan’s elemental nature, and she was able to tap into her powers in new and interesting ways. After Betsy was “shattered” during the Swordbearers tournament in Otherworld, Meggan felt a calling towards the place where Betsy “died.” With the help of Excalibur, they bound their mutant power to Meggan’s in a spell, calling out to the newly formed Captain Britain Corps to seek what happened to Elizabeth. [Excalibur (4th series) #16]
Elizabeth soon returned and, in the weeks that followed, Meggan traveled with Excalibur more often. They served as gatekeepers and ambassadors for mutants and other people of Earth who had business with Otherworld. This wasn't to last. Coven Akkaba rose in influence in the United Kingdom and led the nation to sever official ties with Krakoa. Merlyn also made his move, restoring King Arthur in an effort to reclaim Avalon from the mutants and the Starlight Citadel from Saturnyne. The White Witch was driven back to Camelot where Excalibur joined the Braddock family in siege defense against Arthur's army. Meggan got Maggie to safety on Krakoa, but Avalon was lost to mutantkind. [Excalibur (4th series) #22-26]
As Captain Britain, Elizabeth had remained behind in Otherworld to protect the mutants trapped there after the Krakoan gates fell. Seeking aid, she petitioned Roma for help and was empowered to recruit ten knights for a quest. Meggan was eager to continue exploring the connection between Otherworld and her faerie-like nature, and left Brian to watch after Margaret as she returned to Otherworld. Meggan and the Knights of X now seek to protect the innocent and ensure a peaceful resolution to the War for Otherworld. [Knights of X #1]
