One day, Lila’s carefree time popping around the universe as a child came back to haunt her. She revisited the world of Aladna after suffering writer’s block and reconnected with the Royals of Aladna… who now wanted her to fulfill her old promise of marrying the prince. Lila was from Earth and the “Avengers World” had made major ripples in galactic politics after the Builders War, so the king saw it as a shrewd political maneuver to wed his kingdom to an Earthwoman. Lila panicked and teleported away, finding herself with Captain Marvel. Carol Danvers was on a diplomatic mission for the Avengers in space, and Lila hoped Carol could finesse her out of this situation. Carol did, and Lila was eternally grateful for the save. [Captain Marvel (8th series) #9] She used her powers to jaunt Carol back home for some “shore leave” from her mission, spending Christmas with her friends and family. [Captain Marvel (8th series) #10-12]

In the new era for the mutant race set by Krakoa, the mutant people have taken the forefront as mankind’s ambassadors to the stars in funding S.W.O.R.D., the Sentient World Observation and Response Department. Lila Cheney now lends her intergalactic experience to S.W.O.R.D.’s Teleport Team, a group of mutant teleporters including Vanisher, Blink, Gateway, Amelia Voght and their leader, the universal shaper known as Manifold. The Teleport Team use mutant technology to augment each other’s abilities, achieving phenomenal range and even exiting the universe entirely with their shared portals. [S.W.O.R.D. (2nd series) #1]

It’s unknown how long Lila Cheney's notorious wanderlust will remain tied down to quasi-military structure like S.W.O.R.D. She seemed out of her depth in the Last Annihilation War when Cable recruited her for the new X-Terminators to steal a planetary gun from Breakworld (though the opportunity to catch up with Sam Guthrie was fun). [Cable: Reloaded #1] Her more traditional talents still get a workout on Krakoa-proper. Lila gets to play genuine gigs like rocking on Mojoworld or playing with the house band at Krakoa's Green Lagoon. [X-Force (6th series) #9, X-Factor (4th series) #9] For the moment, this star is shining for her own people.
