Spotlight On...

This mutant was one of the many residents of District-X and at one point one of the world's most successful escorts, thanks to her illusion-based powers! Her life briefly intersected with the X-Men's Bishop and his human partner, Detective Ismael Ortega. Fitting into the classic “trope” of a “working girl with a heart of gold,” read here about… LARA THE ILLUSIONIST!
Not all mutants wear capes and this one certainly didn't. In the 1980s, mutants of such a low power level like this, the self-described “Lizard lady,” were regulated to the sewers under Manhattan. By the 00s, they were out and proud, living in apartments in NYC's trendy East Village with high-brow jobs like academic researchers. Read here… LEVY, HANNA!

Profile On... LARA THE ILLUSIONIST!

David Hine's District-X series was mostly populated with mutants with very low level, even at times personally detrimental, abilities. Despite that, there was the occasional resident with a real power. Power enough to trick even an Omega class mutant, like Mr. M! Initially introduced as sassy sex worker, readers soon found out that Ms. King was a deeply insecure woman, who at her core had a suppressed heroic nature. Read here about Lara the Illusionist.

Profile On... HANNA LEVY!

There were many colorful characters introduced in the District-X series of the early 00s. This particular lady was notable because she was not one of them! She was simply a kind soul whose fortuitous friendship with the Omega level mutant called Mr. M saved Mutant-Town from mass destruction and death. Oh, and she ate lots and lots of bugs! Read here about Hanna Levy.

Update On... X-MAN!

Nate Grey was created by his reality's Sinister as a weapon with a finite lifespan. Despite all his adventures, this ticking clock was never addressed until the end. Facing his own early mortality, the X-Man absorbed the power of a Celestial Lifeseed with the intent of using his vastly increased might to reshape the world into a better order... regardless of who got in his way. With his Horsemen of Salvation and later the Age of X-Man, he tried to impose his views on reality, desperate to leave a legacy. Sympathetic or not, the X-Men opposed Nate's plans for the freedoms he was willing to sacrifice "for the greater good" were not his choice to make.

Update On... AHAB!

Born of the X-Men first dystopian future, Days of Future Past, Ahab remained a threat to the past and present while outside of time itself. He saw the presence of the Original Five X-Men in their future as a perfect opportunity to devastate the timeline in favor of humanity, killing the X-Men's greatest members before they properly came of age. His failed campaign led him to seek sanctuary in Transia, but the bitter and racist cyborg was hunted down by Cable and X-Force, and seemingly destroyed for good.

Update On... X-CUTIONER!

Added this week because of his role in X-Men '97, Carl Denti has been mis-cast as your typical Friends of Humanity bigot. The original X-Cutioner didn't hate mutants, and even worked with Xavier's FBI contact Fred Duncan. He took inspiration from Frank Castle, though, and believed that, once a mutant had killed, they had proven themselves dangerous and deserved punishment. This mentality brought him into conflict with the X-Men more than once, and his moral compromises eventually led Denti to abandon the role of X-Cutioner for his sanity. The Age of Krakoa apparently broke him again, for the X-Cutioner was seen fighting alongside the Nazi-inspired Hate Monger, believing the fight against the mutants was worth the compromise.

Update On... ABYSS!

Unlike yesterday's update, this mutant did NOT have a good Age of Krakoa. A long-forgotten half-brother to Nightcrawler, Nils Styger was collateral damage in a retcon that revealed their sire Azazel was not actually related to Kurt Wagner at all. Before he could address this fact, Abyss was used as a weapon by Orchis to attack the Goblin Queen's Limbo embassy, and his own father Azazel murdered him in order to release the queen from his void. There's a chance Abyss was one of the casualties revived in the White Hot Room behind-the-scenes, but don't hold your breath on whether one of the coolest designs of the Age of Apocalypse will ever get a chance to truly shine.
